<< BackMercy Announces New Principal
President Kirsten MacDougal has announced the appointment of Mr. David Mueller as Principal of Mother of Mercy High School beginning August 1, 2012.
Mr. Mueller comes to Mercy from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati where he has served as Principal the last 19 years. With a B.A. in English from Yale University, he first joined St. Xavier in 1978 as an English teacher and later became Department Chair. Then earning his M.B.A in Management from Xavier University in 1986, he soon moved into administration as the Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs and finally became their Principal in 1993.
“God has certainly blessed the Mercy community with Dave Mueller becoming our new Principal,” said Kirsten MacDougal, President. “He has left an amazing legacy at St. Xavier where many of their most impressive programs of academic and co-curricular excellence came to fruition under his leadership. His commitment to continually advance student learning and support professional development of faculty has enabled St. X to become not only a local leader of Catholic education, but also the largest private school in the state of Ohio. I’ve every confidence that with Dave Mueller as our Principal, Mercy will retain the valued traditions and charism upon which we are founded while confidently advancing toward our Centennial Vision – to be Greater Cincinnati’s preferred academic choice for individual excellence, forming faith-filled women leaders for the 21st century. I am delighted to have him join our team!”
In regard to this new venture, Mr. Mueller said, “I treasure my many friends at St. Xavier, and I look forward to developing deeper relationships in the Mother of Mercy community. It’s a blessing for me to be part of two remarkable Catholic education traditions – the Jesuits and the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters of Mercy have put their stamp on me at formative times. I have vivid memories of kindergarten with Sr. Mary Jacinta at the former Mercy Academy, and I learned much from the example of the sisters at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Mariemont, where summer jobs helped me work my way through college. I’m anxious to find out how the charism of the Sisters of Mercy will touch me now.”
Mr. Mueller also served as a Board Member and Chair of Mission and Planning Committee, Jesuit Secondary Education Association from 1995-2001, as a State Council Member of North Central Association/AdvancEd, and currently sits on the Boards of St. Catharine of Siena School, Queen City Foundation, and the Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy.
Mr. Mueller’s connection to Mother of Mercy High School is very close to home with three generations of Mercy women in his life: his mother Pat Bradley Mueller ‘49, wife Barb Klopp Mueller ‘72, daughter Hannah Mueller ‘10, as well as his mother-in-law Vera Schmutte Klopp ‘45. In addition, all of his sisters and sisters-in-law and many of his nieces attended Mercy and he recently served on the Board of Trustees for Mother of Mercy.
Current families are invited to a reception to "Meet the Principal" on Sunday, August 19 from 3 - 5 p.m. in Mercy's Gym.
