Mercy Secondary Schools

Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland in 1831 to care for the poor, the sick and the uneducated.

Today the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas compromise 1 of 8 Mercy Federations throughout the world;others are in Ireland, Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand, Newfoundland and the Philippines, with a total membership of 15,000.

The Institute of the Sisters of the Americas includes 6,400 Sisters and 1,400 Associates in 48 states and 22 countries of the Western Hemisphere.

The Sisters of Mercy sponsor more high schools for young women than any other religious community of sisters in the United States.

Mother of Mercy High School in Cincinnati is one of the secondary schools in the Americas sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, educating over 19,000 young women and 2,000 young men.
