Mercy Students Get a Warm Welcome on the 1st Day of Class!

All the Bobcats are back and ready for the first day of class. Ms. Laake, now in her new role as Principal, and sporting a beautiful BLUE pedicure, greeted all the students and sent them on their way to homeroom. It was a great start to a great year!

Mercy Students Paint Mural at Mercy Hospital

Six Mercy art students spent 2 weeks of summer vacation working on a mural at Mercy Hospital in Western Hills. The mural is an underwater scene that can be found on the lower level of the hospital near the cafeteria.

The six Mercy students are Katie Hautman, Katie Deitsch, Katie Minning, Nicole Barkalow, Katie Dowling and Ali Cremerling.

Congratulations, Class of 2010!
On June 1, the Class of 2010 entered the building one last time as high school students and exited as the newest members of Mercy's long line of prestigious alumnae. 100% of the Class of 2010 is continuing on to higher education, the third consecutive year of Mercy graduates to do so.

Diane Laake Named Mercy's New Principal

Diane Laake, assistant principal and director of admissions, has been named Mercy's new principal and will begin her new job as principal of Mother of Mercy High School on July 1. “I am very excited about the future of Mother of Mercy with Ms. Diane Laake as our principal,” said Mercy President Kirsten MacDougal who made the announcement. Ms. Laake has worked at Mercy for 31 years, beginning as a science teacher in 1979. She became the assistant principal in 2000.

Maggie Kissinger Honored at YMCA Character Awards Program
Senior Maggie Kissinger was honored Monday night at the YMCA Character Awards Program. Forty students from across the tr-state where honored. The YMCA Character Award recognizes young who give back to their community, volunteer their time, do projects to help the less fortunate and not just make impact immediately but for the long term. Chaverim M'Israel Visits Mercy

Tomer and Chen, two teens from Israel are visiting Mother of Mercy High School this week to teach about Israel and Israeli culture.

Open House Celebrating Sr. Nancy's 20 Years

In recognition of her outstanding leadership as the Principal of Mother of Mercy High School for the past 20 years, Mark Mallory, the Mayor of Cincinnati, proclaimed Monday, May 3, 2010 to be "Sr. Nancy Merkle Day".

An Open House in honor of Sr. Nancy was held on Monday, May 3, 2010. Many parents, student, and teachers stopped in to thank Sr. Nancy for her dedicated work here at Mercy and wish her well in her new endeavors.

Lisa Bodollo finalists in Acclaim/Theatre Educator Award

Lisa Bodollo, Mercy Theatre director, has been named one of four finalists in the city for the Acclaim/Theatre Educator Award. Nominated by her students for "her amazing intensity and connection with her students," Ms. B also challenges her students to "dare to be remarkable!" The Theatre Educator Award will be announced on May 24 at the Acclaim Award gala at the Aronoff Center.

Senior Kids Tour Hits the Road

The Mother of Mercy Senior Kids Tour has been on the road again to area elementary schools. Senior drama students write and produce short skits under the direction of Lisa Bodollo, Mercy drama teacher. The Senior Kids Tour Troupe is one of the only high school touring troupes in the Tri- State area and is dedicated to performing educational shows for school children in grades K-5.

Cincinnati Enquirer Crime Reporter Visits Mercy

Cincinnati Enquirer crime reporter Eileen Kelley recently visited Mother of Mercy’s Journalism class. English teacher, Barbara David, invited her after reading Kelley’s articles on recent shootings in East Price Hill, Avondale, and Over-the-Rhine.

Sunny skies and mild temperatures gave the real feel of Spring at Mercy's 7th Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Everyone went home with LOTS of eggs!

Mariele Fluegeman Wins Cincinnati Shakespeare Competition

Junior Mariele Fluegeman wowed the judges Saturday, March 6th to win the annual Shakespeare Competition for her monologue portrayal of the Duchess from Henry VI, Part 2. This is the 3rd year in a row that Mercy's representative has won the Cincinnati Shakespeare Competition!

Mercy Students Compete In "Tech Olympics"

Eight members of Mercy’s INTERalliance club participated in the Tech Olympics Expo held March 5-7, 2010, at the Millennium Hotel, bringing home many honors!

Mercy's Spring Production - DANCING AT LUGHNASA

Mother of Mercy Theatre will present Brian Friel’s “Dancing at Lughnasa”. Performances will be held at 7:30 on March 5th and March 6th with a Sunday performance on March 7th at 7:00 PM. All performances will be held in the Sr. Mary Carlos Theatre.

Best Selling Author Books Visit to Mercy

NY Times bestselling author Lisa McMann, a friend of English teacher Mr. Greg Bouman, is returning to Cincinnati on March 2, and she specifically asked Joseph-Beth to send her to Mercy again.

National Merit Finalists

Mother of Mercy is proud to announce that Elaine Simpson
and Mallory Workman have been named National Merit Finalists by the Nation Merit Scholarship Program. Only 15,000 nationwide are chosen for this honor!

The 8th grade scholarship event, "Admission with Distinction" has been rescheduled for February 22 at 4 p.m.
