Cross Country Wins GGCL!

Mother of Mercy's Athletic Department congratulates the Cross Country Team - 2013 GGCL Champions! Mercy won the GGCL Championship on Saturday at Rapid Run Park in dramatic fashion. The Bobcats tied Ursuline Academy 44 to 44 and won the tie breaker because Mercy’s 6th runner, Tori Weckenbrock '14, placed in front of Ursuline’s 6th runner. Mercy trailed Ursuline heading into the final mile but steadily moved up and out kicked two runners in the final stretch to secure the victory. Mercy was led by Emma Hatch who lowered her school record to 18:17 and was the GGCL individual runner-up. The whole varsity team ran very well as most ran their fastest time of the season. In order, the Bobcats were Alex Stevens '17, who tied the school's freshman record placing 5th overall, Natalie Geraci '14, Maria Waters '15, Megan Zeinner '14, Tori Weckenbrock '14, and Margo Waters '16.

This was Mercy’s 10th GGCL Title which allowes the school to stand alone with the most Championships in the Scarlet “large school” division. This was also the 25th consecutive year that Mercy finished in the top three in the GGCL Championship meet which is also a league record.

The Athletic Department also congratulates Coach Scott Ridder, named GGCL Cross Country Coach of the Year. Coach Ridder has been leading the Bobcats since 1997. This is the 5th time he has been named GGCL Cross Country Coach of the Year.
