On Wednesday, April 12, 2017, five Mercy senior athletes held pens in the air as family, friends, coaches, and teammates counted down. “Five, four, three, two . . .” When the crowd said “one,” the student athletes signed ceremonial papers committing themselves to their future college teams.

On Thursday, April 6, Mercy’s entire student body attended Playhouse in the Park’s performance of Jane Eyre. Not only did students enjoy live theater, and a chance to ask questions of the actors afterward, Mrs. David’s Honors Freshman English class had the opportunity to contribute their thoughts on Jane Eyre to Playhouse in the Park’s blog.

“We’re going to India this morning.” Author, artist and speaker Susan Conroy announced this metaphorical destination to Mother of Mercy students gathered in the gym on April 3. Throughout her presentation, Susan Conroy shared her experiences in Calcutta, India, working with “the poorest of the poor,” with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity.

Elizabeth Davis and Meredith Meyer recently earned honors for their singing from the West Hills Music Club. The two sophomores at Mother of Mercy High School are voice students of Michelle Wells. They performed in the Music Achievement Awards Audition on March 25, 2017.

Elizabeth won second place and a prize of $75, while Meredith earned honorable mention. Both girls performed their pieces again at the Green Township Library on April 3.

While classmates relax over Easter break, 7 students from Mother of Mercy will volunteer at Catholic Charities Refugee Center: Sara Brogan, Kenz Coon, Kayla Gay, Lexie Hinkle, Jackie Lienesch, Gillian Miller, and Sara Neiheisel.

Over 30 students and faculty members from Mother of Mercy and McAuley recently teamed up to raise awareness for homelessness by participating in a “Shantytown” experience on the Oakwood Avenue campus.

Mother of Mercy private voice students participated in the Ohio Music Educators’ Association (OMEA) solo competition, performing an art song for a judge. The categories are A, B & C, with A being the most difficult. Students were rated on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the best. Students brought home top awards!

Nine Cincinnati Catholic high schools will participate in the second annual “Imagine Our Spirit” art exhibition. The exhibit is a collection of exceptional student art and will be hosted by The Flats Art Gallery in the Price Hill Incline District from March 25 - April 2, 2017.
